Award Banner to Best Team of Ukrainian Collective or State Farm Workers, circa late 1940s, with hand-painted portrait of Stalin.
Very uncommon format, measuring 35" x 17" excluding the fringe and flagpole loops. In heavy double-layer silk, with the graphics and lettering hand-painted on both sides. The obverse features Stalin's portrait in his generalissimo unform, surrounded by the inscription in Ukrainian language saying that this is a transferrable banner to the best team of excellent quality. The wording on the verso is one of the most widely used Soviet slogans, also in Ukrainian: "Work in the USSR is a matter of honor, valor, and heroism". Two 2.5" flagpole loops are backed up by an after-market fabric loop at the opposite top corner so that the banner could be stretched against a backing in horizontal position, if needed.
In outstanding, excellent condition. The silk background is amazingly clean considering the age of the banner, showing just an occasional tiny dark stain, barely noticeable. The fabric is bright and retains its original moiré sheen. The paint of the portrait and lettering is mildly cracked, adding to the air of age and authenticity of the banner, further emphasized by the rich gold tone of the fringe, characteristic of early-Soviet era banners. The fringe is intact and in perfect condition.
This flag will make a fantastic (and rather compact!) addition to a collection of Soviet banners and memorabilia.
Please note that the medal in our photo is for size reference.
