Stalin's Life Events on a Map, hand-painted on linen, extremely rare, circa mid-1940s.
Very large format, measuring approx. 5' x 4'. Possibly a one-of-a-kind item, hand-painted on linen. We have never come across anything like it in all the decades we have been in this business. The map may have been made for a museum, and the stamps on the back side seem to support this understanding. Unfortunately, none of the stamps are legible enough to read.
The map, far from accurate geographically, shows places and events of Stalin's biography: where he lived at various periods of his life, where he participated in congresses of the Bolshevik Party, where he was imprisoned and exiled, the route of his escape, where he commanded fronts during the Civil War, etc., etc.
We cannot overemphasize the rarity of this artifact. Even though it is possible that there may be more than one map of Stalin's life events, hand-painted on a 5' x 4' linen sheet, it is a very rare find!
In excellent condition. Both sides are very clean for an original painting. There are a few occasional small faint stains and smears of paint, and some minor discoloration along the edges due to uneven exposure to light. However, all this wear disappears almost completely in the large and varied "landscape" of the map.
Please note that the yardstick in our photo is for size reference.
