Award Document for Excellent Driver Badge, awarded on 13 December 1943 to Private Petr Petrov (Петр Авакумович Петров), 191st Mortar Regiment.
The document is single-page, approx. 6 ¼ "x 4¼ ", typographically printed with unit stamps and hand-written entries, as typical of award documents for WW2 Excellent Badges. Interestingly, it states that the actual award has not been issued by the unit due to the lack of actual badges; the document thus served as a proof of eligibility so the soldier could receive the award later on. Signed at the bottom by the unit commander.
The document is in very good to excellent condition, very clean and sound. Shows folds and minor wear to the edges but no repairs, missing pieces or significant separations.
This is an extremely scarce document: printed on a flimsy piece of paper, these were often lost or destroyed. Typically, they were not treasured by their owners or their descendants as much as the documents for higher decorations and medals. Very few of award certificates for WW2 "Proficiency Series" badges survived to our days compared with the number of badges in circulation.
