Badge of Honored Railway Employee, Type 2, #27536, circa early- to mid-1944 issue.
In brass and enamels; measures 45.7 mm in height, 31.9 mm in width; weighs 21.7 g without the screw plate. This piece is among the early issues of what is typically considered "WW2 type" of the badge featuring distinctive counter-relief to the locomotive, flat area in the upper part of the reverse and flat bottom with stamped serial number. Note that the serial number which is quite low for the bronze version of the badge.
The badge is outstanding, excellent condition - very uncommon for this award. The enamel shows beautiful luster and is practically perfect, having only some microscopic contact marks unnoticeable to the naked eye. It is completely free of the usual chips, flaking, rubbing or hairlines. The details of the locomotive and other raised parts are pristine and exceptionally crisp. Some of the original silver finish is visible in recessed areas on the obverse and on the reverse around the screw post. The wires holding the hammer & sickle emblem are tight. The screw post is original and of full length, nearly 12.5 mm. The badge comes with the original washer and original 24-mm screw plate in bronze-plated steel maker-marked "ShMZ NKPS".
Overall, an exceptionally well-preserved example of the highest WW2 award of Soviet railroad workers. This badge was very hard to earn and provided significant privileges to its recipient.
