Military Fanfare Trumpet with Trumpet Banner, circa 1960s.

The trumpet is 28 " long including the mouthpiece. There is a stamped manufacturer logo near the bell flare. The logo belongs to the Leningrad Factory of Musical Instruments, originally the Zimmerman Factory, which supplied the Russian military with musical instruments since WW1.

The trumpet is in very good to excellent condition. The rim of the bell flare is very slightly bent, there are 2 minuscule dings on the back side of the flare as well as one to the right of the maker's mark. All this wear is very minor and not at all intrusive. If anything, it adds character much more than it detracts from the viewer's impression of the trumpet. The nickel plating is intact and has retained its brilliant luster. The mouthpiece is not original but in perfect working order. The trumpet has been tested and is playable.

The banner is in heavy synthetic silk, 2-layered, with double-sided embroidered artwork and dark gold fringe on 3 sides. The obverse features a lyre in the center with a red star above and "Leningrad Military District" arching above it. The reverse features the Soviet hammer-and-sickle emblem within a red star and "Ministry of Defense USSR" embroidered around it.

The banner is in very good to excellent condition as well. Although a couple of small faint stains can be found at close inspection, the banner is free from significant soiling, staining, rips, catches to the fabric or discoloration. There is a line of removed stitching running horizontally at mid-height of the banner but we couldn't come up with any viable ideas as to what could have been stitched along this line.

The Leningrad Military District goes back in history to 1864 when it was, of course, the Petersburg Military District. In 2010, LMD was disbanded but in 2022, the Russian Defense Minister Shoigu submitted his plan to reinstitute it as of September 2023.

Please note that the medal in our last photo is for size reference.
