Large Poster with Stalin's Portrait, Rare "Mourning Edition" dated March 30, 1953 - 25 days after Stalin's death.
Large format, measures 16" x 24" overall, the poster is 16" x 21 ¼", the image is 14" x 18 ¾". Regular poster-grade paper, mounted on cardboard backing. The verso features two partial paper tags in the lower left-hand corner. The upper tag is that of the Kharkiv Factory of Artistic Products where the poster was printed, with its address and a smeared ink stamp, probably QC. What's left of the lower tab states Stalin's initials and last name, the tail end of the order number and date, March 30, 1953, followed by the name of the publishing house, "Art".
The poster is in very good condition, especially considering its age and not-so-durable medium. The paper shows very minor wear, the most obvious being a scratch on Stalin's face and another one lower on the tunic. There are several minuscule white spots where the top layer of paper is missing. At close inspection against bright light, very mild staining becomes evident but it is practically invisible when looking at the poster "normally", at 90 degrees to its surface. The white "frame" area of the poster around the image shows minor faint stains, not affecting the image. The cardboard backing shows moderate storage wear and very mild warping, possibly occurring when glue was applied to mount the poster. None of the wear is too intrusive or detractive.
Please note that the actual medal in our last photo is for size reference.
