Postcard The Mitten, artist signed, dated 1955.
The size is continental 6" x 4", postally unused and unmarked. Published by the Soviet Artist Publishing House, circulation 1,000,000 copies. The logo of the publishing house is in the upper left-hand corner on the verso. The back is undivided, the name of the artist, E. Rachev, is printed in the lower left-hand corner, followed by a quote from the moment in the fairy tale this illustration depicts. The plot of the fairy tale is very typical for Russian and Ukrainian folklore as it glorifies the communal way of life. A mouse runs into a lost mitten and without a thought of its rightful owner, occupies it. Other animals happen by, politely inquire if they could join the mouse, get the permission, start living together, and so the tale continues. Despite the size of the newcomers being bigger and bigger, the mitten fits them all as long as are happy to live together, communally. The final newcomer, some large animal, an individualist personality, usually ruins this communist paradise thus teaching a valuable lesson to the young readers. The End.
In excellent condition. The artwork is pristine, the corner bumps almost nonexistent, the verso is very clean, showing minimal storage wear. The paper is very mildly age toned.
