Army field cap, dated 1991.

In olive drab cotton material. This model was at first worn by Soviet Spetznaz and commonly referred to as "Mobutu" cap, named after the Congo dictator who the Soviets attempted to destabilize and overthrow. The original cap design dates to the early 1970s and was intended for export to Africa, eventually a Soviet tropical cap was designed on its basis and the nickname remained. This cap was later widely used by Soviet soldiers in Afghanistan.

Made in rugged cotton, very soundly stitched, with reinforced vent holes on each side and simulated leather sweat band. The liner shows clear maker stamp of the Headgear Factory in the city of Priluki with the date 1991. There is also an additional smaller quality control stamp in black. The size is marked 55 (which corresponds with US size 6 7/8, Small.)

In Mint unissued condition.
