Award banner of the Council of Ministers of RSFSR and the Central Committee of Trade Unions to the winner of socialist competition, circa 1960s.

Measures approx. 5' x 4' (64" x 50"), in double-layer thick heavy velvet, with fringe on 3 sides and a 3 ½" sleeve for the flagpole. Issued by the Council of Ministers of RSFSR and the All-Union Central Committee of Trade Unions to the winner of socialist competition. Lenin's portrait is hand-made in a very elaborate fashion using a combination of techniques: stitching a thin body-colored silk contour of Lenin's head and then hand-embroidering the facial features, hair, etc. over it. All the other graphics and lettering are embroidered using golden-colored silk thread and gold-bullion thread. The banner under Lenin's portrait featuring the sickle and hammer emblem in gold bullion thread is a separate piece of red fabric stitched onto the banner.

The banner is in very good condition. The velvet has preserved all of its color and luster. All the lettering and graphics are bright and not at all faded or damaged. Speaking of damage, there are only a few tiny moth nips to the silk of Lenin's head as well as to the fabric under his portrait, and a few minuscule faint stains on it. All of this damage is completely lost in the size and wealth of detail of the banner and is not really detractive. The fringe is all in place and has retained its original luster.

Considering the top-level organizations issuing the banner, it must have been awarded for winning a major socialist competition that went on in the entire RSFSR. This is very uncommon compared to the typical banners of this nature, issued by local or regional authorities.
