Table Medal in Commemoration of the XVII Congress of the Communist Youth League and the 50th Anniversary of the Komsomol Being Named in Honor of Lenin, 1974 issue.
In bronze; measures 78.1 mm in height, 74.8 mm in width; weighs 173.0 g. A very uncommon design: the medal is in the shape of a waving banner with a 3-d "ripple effect", having a recessed image of the VLKSM emblem with a raised portrait of Lenin. The raised inscription of the obverse is "50 Years with Lenin's Name". In the lower right corner, there is the name of the medallist B. Staris who created the artwork. The reverse has a Lenin's quote in raised characters: "The Union of Communist youth must be a shock group which in every endeavor shows its help (and) exhibits its initiative, its innovations". Near the lower edge are the raised Leningrad mint logo and 1974 date of manufacture.
Very fine overall condition. The details are perfect, free of noticeable wear. There are some blemishes, less pronounced on the obverse than reverse and in general, not too detractive.
The medal was issued as a commemorative award to the attendees of the XVII Congress of VLKSM, both the delegates and VIP visitors. There were 8035 specimens in circulation, not a large number by the Soviet standards.
