Bulgaria, Order for People's Liberty, 2nd class, Type 2, with original case of issue, circa 1950s - early 60s.
The medallion is in brass and white metal with silver plating and enamels; measures 56.2 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 50.8 mm in width; weighs 27.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This early Type 2 features essentially the same four-piece construction of the medallion as the Type 1 screw back: note in particular the relief on the reverse of the starburst rays and the screw and retaining nut attachment of the center medallion. This version was apparently issued for only a short period, probably until the mid-1960s at the latest.
The order is in excellent condition, free of significant wear of any kind. The enamel is perfectly preserved and shows attractive luster. The details of the center medallion are intact and crisp; the original dark silver finish is practically pristine showing only the barely noticeable wear to the high points of the bas-relief. The silver finish on the starburst is bright. Includes the original suspension, an early 2-layer version in brass. The old, likely original ribbon is nicely preserved and sound.
The case of issue is in cardboard wrapped in maroon oilcloth, similar to Soviet award cases of the period. The lid shows the name and class of the award and the national emblem of communist Bulgaria. The interior is lined in silk. The box is in outstanding condition, perfectly clean and sound.
