Medal of Honored Blood Donor of the USSR, circa 1950s.
In brass and fine "hot-baked" enamels, far better quality than the more recent issues of the same award. The massive pendant portion is about 1.5" in diameter. The round white medallion has an outline of a star; the red cross in the center is a separate superimposed part held by wires. The gold wreath at the bottom has a red plaque with the inscription "USSR". At the top of the medallion is the inscription "Honored Blood Donor".
In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is perfect everywhere: free of any flaking, hairlines, scratches, or even microscopic wear that could be found under a 10x loupe - a very unusual case. This includes the exposed red enamel on the suspension device which often gets cracked or darkened. The gilt finish on the wreath is very nicely preserved and bright, free of blemishes or oxidation spots. The screw post is of full length and includes the original maker marked screw plate.
