Table Medal in Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of KGB, 1987 issue.
In bronze, measures 59.9 mm in width, 4.5 mm thick at the rim; weighs 119.8 g. The obverse features an image of the Honored State Security Employee badge beautifully executed in high 3-d profile. The reverse shows the round logo of the Moscow Mint and an 87 date near the edge at approximately 4 o'clock.
Excellent, near mint condition, free of noticeable wear of any kind. The toning to the brass is even and extremely attractive, free of significant blemishes or verdigris.
The model for the medal was created by the die cutter A.A. Novichkov. In 1987, a total of 3000 pieces were struck at the Moscow Mint to be awarded to senior State Security officers and VIP retirees. Note that the number of issues was even smaller than a similar KGB 60th Anniversary medal issued 10 years prior (of which 4050 were struck), so the 70th Anniversary medal is quite scarce by comparison.
