The Magical World of Porcelain, from the collection of the National Museum of Tatarstan, 2003.
This is a rare, out-of-print edition, only 5,000 copies ever printed. Large format, measures 12" x 9", 160 pp. Laminated hardcover, printed on heavy-stock coated paper. Published by Zaman Publishers, Kazan. Russian and English text provides plentiful information on the high-resolution photo illustrations. The collection covers the period from the 1760s to present times and was started when a magnificent private collection of Russian, Western European and East Asian porcelain was handed over to the museum, to be expanded considerably over the years.
In very good condition. The cover shows just minimal traces of shelf wear to the laminate and minuscule corner bumps, hardly noticeable. The signatures of the textblock are bound by thread and glued to the backing gauze. The threads are holding the textblock together well but some of the backing material and glue have deteriorated resulting in a couple of separations at the hinge but there are no separations of individual sheets. The fore-edge of the textblock appears a little warped, probably due to exposure to some elements. Please do not be scared by this detailed list of wear and damage. The book still looks and feels amazingly new for its age and is perfectly readable.
The National Museum of Tatarstan in the city of Kazan received the core of this collection from the family of the Russian scientist and researcher Andrey Likhachev (1832-1890), a renowned historian, ethnographer, archeologist and numismatist.
