Porcelain figurine Great Dane Pup, by LFZ (Lomonosov Porcelain Factory), circa 1960s.
Appropriately for the breed, this is a rather large figurine, nearly 7" tall, approx. 4" x 3 ¾" at the base. Glazed porcelain, paints. The coat is that of a specific variation of Great Danes called "Marble". The puppy looks a little sad, being all alone. This figurine is listed on p. 21, item # 62, in Pocket Price Catalog Soviet Porcelain by Beloglazov (see our last photo).
In excellent condition. The only item of detriment we could find is a barely visible horizontal scratch on the left thigh. No other post-production damage of any kind anywhere on the surface.
As a breed, Great Danes come from Germany, descendants from hunting dogs of the Middle Ages used to hunt wild boar and deer. Their role among humans gradually migrated to being guardians of German nobility. It is one of the largest dog breeds in the world, the Irish Wolfhound being the other. Modern breeders have been working on the decorative side of Great Danes, "Marble" being one of the results of this work.
Please note that the coin in our last photo is for size reference.
