Red Banner Northern [Fleet] ("Краснознаменный Северный"), a rare Soviet Navy photo documentary, 1976.

Small format, measures approx. 8" x 7 ½", 174 pp. Published by Murmansk Book Publishers, Russian text, b/w photos with short captions. Circulation 50,000 copies. Printed on thick but low-quality paper. The front free endpaper features a handwritten gift inscription dated 20 May 1976. Translated, it reads "To dear Boris Naumovich who taught me so much, whom I respect and love. With gratitude, [signature]". The album is preceded by a foreword authored by the Commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral G. Egorov. The photos and captions are pure Soviet propaganda, extolling the romanticism of the hardships of Naval duty service exacerbated by the severe climate of the Arctic Ocean.

In good condition. The leatherette of the cover shows some wear, mostly at the head and tail of the spine and the hinge, as well as tiny corner bumps. The binding is somewhat loose and some of the textblock signatures show separations but it still holding together and no pages are missing.

Overall, a fascinating insight into the day-to-day routine of the Navy service in the Soviet Far North.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference only.
