Kusa cast iron figurine "Little Hunter", dated 1976.
Stands 6 ¼" tall, massive for its size, weighs 1 lb. 14 oz. The boys is emulating his father, wearing his hunting boots many sizes too big for him and his bandolier, pretending to be getting ready for a hunt. The statuette is listed on p. 198 of Cast Iron Casting (1920 - 2009) by A. Zak, with the rarity rating of 3 (out of 3, 1 being the most rare). The listing is on our last photo. The maker's mark is on the bottom.
In excellent outstanding condition. The black coating, or "Dutch soot" as the master-casters call it, is completely intact, and there are no scratches, scuffs, nicks or any damage anywhere.
Kusa is a small city in the Chelyabinsk Region in the Urals Region of the Russian Federation, famous for its artistic cast-iron castings since the 19th century and located not so far from Kasli, another such famous producer of artistic cast-iron castings. Sadly, the masters of Kusa stopped their work in 2021, surrendering to the changing post-Soviet economy conditions and yielding to the Kasli competition. So, it won't be long before the rarity rating of this statuette will probably be upgraded.
Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
