Vilhelms Purvitis (1872 - 1945) was a prominent Latvian artist, a leading force in creating, educating and promoting the national Latvian school of art. But his fame as a painter stems in his talent and love of painting the nature of his country. When you look at his artwork, you cannot help admiring the mastery with which he captures the elusive and understated pearlescent light typical of Nature in high latitudes.
