Afghanistan, Muhammad Ayub Khan Medal, circa 1980s.
Gilded brass; measures 45.0 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 40.1 mm in width; weighs 26.4 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Inscribed on the reverse, "Governmental Medal of Ghazi Muhammad Ayub Khan".
The medal is in outstanding, excellent condition. The original fire gilt finish is fully intact and bright. The details are perfect. Includes scarce original ribbon in brand new condition.
Muhammad Ayub Khan commanded the Afghan forces that inflicted a painful defeat on the British in the battle of Maiwand in July 1880, during the Second Afghan War. The British decisively defeated Ayub Khan and his supporters two months later.
