Hand-painted wooden saucer in Polkhov-Maydan Russian folk art style, dated 1975.
Each saucer measures approx. 5 1/2" wide x 1" high. In solid wood, hand-painted on top and finished in clear lacquer.
In new, unused condition. The manufacturer's inventory paper tag is still glued to the bottom of each saucer.
The Polkhov-Maydan style of hand-painting on wood appeared and developed in early 20th century in three villages on the banks of the Volga in the Nizhniy-Novgorod Region. It is characterized by bold contrasting vibrant colors. The most common motifs are flowers, birds, animals, rural and urban landscapes.
