Medal for the Defense of Caucasus, Variation 2 (U-shaped ring), late 1940s - early 50s issue.
In brass, measures 36.9 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.2 mm in width; weighs 17.2 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
In very fine to excellent condition. Both sides are completely free of any wear visible to the naked eye. The raised details are perfect and exceptionally crisp. There is a single mild edge bump on the reverse at approx. 8:30 position, not glaring or detractive. The original "gilt" finish (mint luster) is nicely preserved and bright throughout showing only a minor amount of tarnish, mostly on the reverse. Comes on original suspension, a late-1940s single-layer model in brass. The ribbon is old, possibly original to the medal; it shows minor wear at the edges but is still sound and clean.
Overall, a very attractive example of the early post-war version of the Caucasus Medal. For unknown reasons, this variation is much harder to find than the wartime Variation 1 or even the relatively scarce "Voenkomat" version.
