Medal for the Capture of Budapest, Variation 2, 1940s - early 50s.
Excellent condition. There are no visible dings or scratches; raised details of artwork and lettering are perfect and exceptionally crisp, practically pristine on both sides. The toning to the brass is light, even and extremely attractive; there are just a couple of very mild blemishes on the raised edge and eyelet that do not detract from the overall appearance of the medal in the least. A very good amount of original "gilt" mint luster still clearly visible in recessed areas throughout.
Comes on an original suspension device, an early post-war two-layer model in brass with integral catch of the pin. The old, possibly original ribbon is extremely well-preserved and attractive. Overall, a superb example of the Variation 2 Budapest Medal which from our experience, is more scarce than Var. 1.
