Excellent Torpedo Artificer badge, early- to mid-1950s.

Brass, enamels; measures 45.9 x 36.4 mm; weighs 14.7 g without the screw plate. This is the last variation of the badge, "classic flat" according to B. Airapetyan's Breast Badges of the Red Army, 1941-1945 (See p. 97, fig.3).

In very fine to excellent condition. The enamel is very well preserved overall showing only minimal amount of surface rubbing and a couple of minuscule flakes to the outer edge of the white band at approximately 1 o'clock - nearly unnoticeable without magnification. There are no chips, significant flaking or noticeable scratches. The details of the wreath, torpedo and naval mine are perfect and crisp. The original gilt finish is bright on the obverse while the reverse shows attractive even patina to the brass. There are no blemishes or significant tarnish on either side. The screw post has been reduced for convenience as was customary, but its remaining length of over 7 mm is well enough for proper functionality. Comes with an original screw plate marked "Pobeda Factory, Moscow".

Overall, this is a very attractive example of Excellent Torpedoman's badge from the early Cold War era.
