Model of a monument to Lenin, in Silumin alloy, signed by sculptor Cherkasov, dated 1970.
This large statuette measures approx. 23 cm (9") tall, plinth size measures 8.5 cm x 9.0 cm (3 ¼" x 3 ½"). Weight: 1 lb.
Excellent condition: Lenin's figure shows virtually no dings, scuffs or pitting. Minor traces of oxidation to the base of the monument and the plinth.
The sculptor succeeded in expressing one of Lenin's habitual postures as evident from his photos and film footage. The figure exudes condescending arrogance of a fanatic. Secret party archives, somewhat declassified after the fall of the Soviet Union, contain multiple documents, handwritten and signed by Lenin, directing party leaders in different locations to commit atrocities, absolutely uncalled for by the actions triggering them. For example, Lenin wrote to the local party officials in Saratov: "Shoot conspirators and the undecided, do not ask questions and do not delay!". Or, his directive to Azerbaijanian communists, "Burn Baku down to the ground". Or his directive sent to Penza to "hang, by all means hang at least 100 well-to-do peasants".
