Mongolian Oder of the Polar Star, #23625, circa late 1980s - early 1990s issue.
Silver gilt, enamels, 3-piece construction; measures 54.5 mm tall, 47.6 mm wide, and weighs 58.2 grams. This is a late variation of the award featuring the Mongolian national emblem of 1960 style. The serial number is engraved by rotating tool in style characteristic of the period. This Type 4 orders were manufactured by the Soviet Mint starting from 1970 and issued by the Mongolian authorities pretty much in the order of their serial numbers until the early 2000s. After the supplies had ran out, there were some additional pieces of the same overall style made in Mongolia in 2003 but those were in brass and of very inferior quality.
In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is beautifully preserved and shows magnificent luster; it is completely free of the usual flakes, chips or scratches. The raised parts of the center medallion are likewise perfect. The original gold plating on the starburst is nice and bright. There is attractive untouched patina to silver on the reverse.
