Medal for Valiant Labor, Type 1, Variation 1, #10233, circa mid- to late-1942.

Medallion is in silver and enamels; 34.5 mm wide; weighs 22.1 g not including the suspension and connecting link; overall weight with the suspension and screw plate is 35.2 g. Stamped number sign "N" and engraved serial number on the reverse. Comes with first version of the Type 1 triangular suspension device in silver (rather than silver-plated brass, as the later version). The screw post is in copper, 2.7 mm wide.

In excellent condition, very uncommon for a Type 1 Valiant Labor Medal of WW2 era. The enamel on the star has only a few tiny contact marks that are almost unnoticeable to the naked eye - no flakes, significant rubbing or other visible wear - and shows beautiful luster. There are a couple of tiny dings to the raised edge and a single barely perceptible bump at approx. 9 o'clock, none of it really detractive. The raised lettering is perfect and crisp on both sides, and the silver exhibits very attractive even toning throughout.

The suspension device is original and complete, including the triangular back plate (hidden under the sewn-in ends of the ribbon) and hexagon nut. The screw post is full length, approx. 12.5 mm (measured from the ribbon covering the back plate), and includes original screw plate marked "Mondvor". The latter is somewhat loose due to the worn threads of the screw post but will still adhere to the lower part on the screw post very well without sliding off. The silver connecting link appears to be original, its ends still joined with solder. The old, probably original ribbon is sound, clean and attractive, shows only minimal amount wear at the top edge.
