"Moscow in Construction", Table Medal, 1958.
In bronze, measures 65.1 mm wide. The obverse shows a young masonry worker, the recently completed main building of the Moscow University (at the time, the tallest building in Europe), and inscription "Moscow". On the reverse, there is a contrasting picture of the old Moscow landmarks: a very detailed depiction of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky on the Red Square, the St. Basil Cathedral, and one of the Kremlin towers.
The artwork was created by the die-cutter M.E. Eshba. Struck at the Leningrad Mint in 1958, the medal had a total circulation of 2047. It is a very early and uncommon piece celebrating progress of the post-war development of the Soviet capital.
Very fine to excellent condition. There is only tiny amount of wear to raised points, but the details of the artwork remain well-preserved and crisp. Dark toning to the brass, somewhat irregular on the obverse but still very attractive. The medal is free of edge knocks, scratches, or significant dings.
