Vladimir Mayakovskiy, full standing statuette in Silumin, by Chebotaryov, dated 1977.
Measures nearly 14" (36 cm) tall, the plinth is 3.5" x 5.5" (9 x 14 cm). Features a 1920s likeness of the famous Futurist poet deep in thought and leaning on a baluster. The reverse shows name of the sculptor who created the model for the statuette and a 1977 date of manufacture. Excellent condition.
Mayakovskiy (1893 - 1930), born in Georgia to Cossack/Ukrainian parents, was a multi-talented revolutionary poet who also designed posters and produced films. Known for decades as the author of the famous line that became a longstanding Soviet motto: "Lenin lives, lived and will live!" Disillusioned with life and the Soviet state, he committed suicide at 37.
