Badge in Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of KGB of Uzbekistan, 1974.
Aluminum, paint, lacquer; 42.8 x 31.9 mm. Scarce version of the badge featuring perfectly flat reverse without the stippling or maker mark (unlike the more common version having a slightly concaved reverse with stippling pattern and raised maker mark). Quality is marginally better than of the other variation.
Excellent condition. The gold paint is perfect. The gold finish is extremely well-preserved and bright showing just a tiny amount of wear at the raised points of the hilt of the sword and numeral "50".
This is one of the badges of the "republican" KGB anniversary commemorative series. These were apparently awarded only to fairly high-ranking active-duty KGB officers in the republic and possibly a small number of VIP State Security retirees. /Avers 8, p. 409, fig. 1939/
