Hungary, Army Qualification Badge of Military Vehicle Driver or Maintenance Mechanic, 2nd class, circa late 1950s - early 1960s.

Made in brass and high quality "hot-baked" enamels, measures 64.9 mm wide x 25.7 mm tall. The badge is very similar in its design to the contemporary Soviet badge of a Tank Driver. The numeral in the center shield designates proficiency level (3 being the lowest and 1 the highest). The quality of this particular piece is far above the more common version of the same badge with "cold" enamels.

Excellent condition. The enamel retains beautiful luster and has only a few microscopic contact marks, no rubbing or other significant wear. The gilt finish is bright. and includes fully functional original pin attachment.

This very interesting military badge was established soon after the suppression of the Hungarian revolution by the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. It was reportedly issued for just a few years. The version with "hot-baked" enamel is very rare, far more so than the typical "cold" enamel variation.
