Badge in Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Order of the Red Banner Dzerzhinsky KGB Academy (VKSh), 1977.

German silver, brass, "cold" enamels; medallion is 36.4 mm tall (incl. eyelet), 31.0 mm wide, of riveted two-piece construction. Moscow Mint logo to the reverse. Curiously, the medal is of the design atypical for a Soviet badge. For instance, the ribbon is of KGB royal blue but both its shape and the pin back attachment are highly unusual. The depiction of the oak leaves in the band is also more reminiscent of a European decoration. Note also the absence of the school name, even in abbreviated format.

In excellent, near mint condition. The enamels and finishes are pristine. The ribbon is immaculately clean.

The VKSh was a top-secret higher education establishment and law school exclusively for KGB operatives. The school is still running now under the name Academy of FSB of Russia. The award was issued in the anniversary year to faculty and best students of the academy.
