Badge in Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Military Unit #7459 (502nd MVD Prisoner Convoy Regiment), commemorative badge, 1992 issue.
Aluminum, paint, lacquer, 47.4 x 30.8 mm. The reverse shows raised maker mark САЗ ("SAZ"). The badge is nearly identical to the 1987 KGB anniversary badge by the same factory. Although technically speaking a post-Soviet issue, this badge made within a year of the collapse of the USSR is still very Soviet in its design and quality. In excellent condition.
Like many veteran badges of the Soviet era, the unit is referred only by its code number, but as evident from various Internet sources, Unit #7459 was in fact the 502nd Prisoner Convoy Regiment of the Ministry of Interior. Initially, it had belonged to the 43rd Division of the MVD Internal Troops which was transferred to Belorussia by mutual agreement with Russian Federation during the breakup of the USSR in late 1991. The 502nd Prisoner Convoy Regiment however remained under Russian control and is still an active unit stationed in the city of Smolensk. $275.00
