Badge of a Young Guardsman of a Five-Year Plan, 2nd class, Type 1 Variation 2, circa late 1970s.
Brass, "cold" enamel. The medallion is two-piece construction, riveted, quite heavy; measures 28.7 mm in height, 24.5 mm in width. The reverse of the suspension device has early style mint mark "MMD" (Moscow Mint.) This early type is of much better quality than the 1980s "Young Guardsmen" badges in aluminum.
Very fine to excellent condition. The enamel on the suspension has a few tiny hairlines that resulted in slightly darker areas but no chips or flaking. There is patina to the pendant that adds character, no significant blemishes or verdigris.
