Award Document for Excellent Border Guard badge, issued in 1959 to Private Vladimir Svistun.
The cover shows nicely detailed depiction of the badge, inscription in blue "Committee of State Security at the Council of Ministers of the Union of SSR" and near the bottom, inscription "Certificate for a Badge 'Excellent Border Guard'".
The first inside page has a slogan "Long live Soviet border guards who are diligently guarding the sacred frontiers of our Motherland!" (it doesn't mention of course that primary function of KGB border guards was catching people trying to escape, not apprehending infiltrators or protecting "sacred frontiers"). On the opposite page are hand-written entries stating the name and rank of the recipient and showing that the award was bestowed on 10 June 1959 by an order of the Commander of the KGB Border Guard Troops of Turkmenistan District. The same page also has appropriate ink stamp of the district.
The document is in very good to excellent condition. There is minor wear and small separations along the spine, but the document remains completely sound and presentable. The cover shows only minor age toning and very light, almost unnoticeable soiling, while the internal pages are perfectly clean.
This document can go nicely with any Border Guard badge of 1957-64 model. Certificates of this kind are very scarce, much more so than the actual badges.
