Schoolgirl with a Kid Goat, cast iron figurine by the SChLZ (Sverdlovsk Iron Works), late 1950s - early 1960s.

Measures 3 ½" in height; the base is approx. 3 ¼" in diameter. Marker marked СЧЛЗ ("SChLZ") at the bottom and shows additional foundry mark "2". The model was created by sculptor G. Petrova.

The statuette has been repainted, otherwise in excellent condition.

The SChLZ (which stands for Свердловский Чугуннолитейный Завод or Sverdlovsk Iron Casting Works) is one of the smaller and less common among the Soviet cast iron art manufacturers. This Sverdlovsk factory was created only in 1956 on the base of a small workshop; it expanded during the 60s thanks to the popularity of some of its works. The SCHLZ maker mark was in use only until 1965; starting in 1962, it was always accompanied by the year of manufacture. In 1966, the factory was renamed Sverdlovsk Artistic Casting Factory (Свердловский Завод Художественного Литья). Although seemingly successful, the factory inexplicably closed in 1970 - possibly due to the competition from the far larger and more famous Kasli Iron Works.

/Cast Iron Art, 1920 - 2009, Aleksandr Zak, page 203; note that the book mistakenly puts the timeframe for production of this figurine into 1970s-80s/
