Kaliningrad Merchant Fleet School of the Ministry for Fishing Industry (KMU), graduation badge, 1984.
Brass gilt and nickel plating, enamels; 54.3 x 28.7 mm. The central emblem with the globe, merchant ship and anchor, and the bottom plaque with the abbreviated name of the school КМУ ("KMU") are separate, superimposed parts. Note the graduation date "1984" under the ship.
The badge is in excellent condition. The characteristically long screw post measures approx. 12.5 mm long, has not been reduced. Comes with original screw plate.
The Kaliningrad merchant fleet school, formerly located in Murmansk and known as MVIMU, was reportedly founded in 1952. Many of its graduation classes ordered badges of their own unique design, hence a number of variations of the graduation badges for this school can be found. The 1984 issue is interesting because unlike most other Soviet graduation badges, it does not have any Soviet symbols - such as hammer & sickle emblem or red banner.
