Moscow studio portrait of a teenager or young adult wearing a high-collared military style jacket, circa 1890-1900.
Possibly
either a then current or "traditional" coat from the Corps of
Pages or one of the military schools in the Moscow area.
Measures overall 4 ¼" x 6 ½", the image size is 2 1/8" by 3 5/8". Studio stamp in gold on the obverse, wonderfully complex studio advertisement on the reverse. Details of the studio imprint are rather specific and may represent actual awards that the studio actually earned; many studios in Russia and elsewhere in the 19th Century used generic mounts with imprints that looked like but did not actually represent real honors received? Unfortunately, there is only enough detail visible on the buttons for one to guess that they are not standard imperial Russian military buttons.
Excellent condition with virtually none of the ubiquitous stains seen on 100+ year old photos.
