Handsome Portrait of a Barrister or Mid-Level Law Court Official.
Sized 4 3/16" by 6 5/8". Photographer is V. Srivkin in the city of Ryzan. Barrister has silver law devices (imperial crown on top of a pillar labeled "The Law") on the points of his velvet coat collar. Silver or gold bullion shoulder straps, buttons show law devices, too. Art Nouveau reverse shows sign of having been hinged in an album and bears a one word inscription in ink.
Excellent condition. Barely noticeable slight smudges to surface of photograph, not affecting the central image.
The printed imagery on the reverse would date this cabinet card to the 1890s, at least a generation after Western European men had given up wearing Napoleon III mustaches and goatees (in the aftermath of the French defeat at the hands of the Germans in 1871)
