"For 50 Years of Service, [General of Artillery] N O Sukhozanet, " 1861, bronze commemorative table medal.
51.4 mm wide; weighs 54.7 grams. Engraved by V. Alexeev. Obverse has a portrait of Nickolai O. Sukhozanet with his name around the rim; reverse bears a 6-line inscription. Rich coffee-brown color.
Very fine to excellent condition.
The New York Public Library can provide an impressive 1865 photographic portrait of General Sukhozanet. He started his military career fighting Napoleon in 1812 and he was eventually awarded both the Order of St. Andrew and the Order of St. George (First Class) as well as many other of the highest decorations of the Russian Empire.
