East Germany, NVA Sports Club Medal Awarded to Participants of the Club's 1974 We Protect the DDR Competitions.

In light metal with gold-colored coating, measuring 51 mm wide. The obverse features a runner in front of a tank under the motto of the competitions, Wir schutzen die DDR ("We Protect the DDR"). The emblem of the club, ASV (Armee Sportsvereinigung, Army Sports Association) is at the bottom. The reverse shows a raised DDR state emblem encircled in a wreath. The medal is suspended from a plastic bar dated 1974, hanging from a 16"-long ribbon in the colors of the German flag.

The emblem of the club, ASV (Armee Sportsvereinigung, Army Sports Association) is at the bottom. The reverse shows a raised DDR state emblem encircled in a wreath. The medal is suspended from a plastic bar dated 1974, hanging from a 16"-long ribbon in the colors of the German flag.

In very fine to excellent condition, the only obvious wear being the gold coating partially worn off the high points of the runner. The ribbon is intact and clean, showing a barely noticeable trace of glue and a few stitches with black thread where the ends were affixed together.

Similarly to the Soviet Union, East Germany had separate sports clubs for their army (ASV) and law enforcement (Dynamo), major competitors in national sporting events.
