In silvered brass, measures 32 mm wide. The name of the medal, "Medaille für treue Dienste in der Zollverwaltung der DDR," is struck on the obverse. The white stripe in the middle of the suspension ribbon signifies 10 years of service. The original presentation box has black plastic bottom lined with light foam rubber inside, the lid is in Plexiglas.
The medal is in excellent condition, showing light attractive patina towards the bottom of the medallion. Both pin attachments are clean and functional. The lid of the box is lightly scuffed; the scuffing does not obscure the medal in

The medal was instituted on 12 May 1967 in six classes, to be awarded to all employees of the customs administration upon reaching a fixed, uninterrupted period of honest, conscientious, and faithful service: 5 years service (bronze), 10 years service (silver), 15 years service (gold), 20 years service (gold + 1 oak leaf), 25 years service (gold + 2 oak leaves), and 30 years service (gold + 3 oak leaves).
