The medallion is in very fine condition. A couple of the rays of the underlying star are slightly bent, the green enamel of the wreath shows an occasional flake or chip, two of the berries of

The medallion is in very fine condition. A couple of the rays of the underlying star are slightly bent, the green enamel of the wreath shows an occasional flake or chip, two of the berries of the wreath have been replaced with enamel of a different color. The crown sits a little askew, leaning to the left, and that is perhaps the most visible item of wear; the rest of it is not too intrusive to the eye.

The Order of the Red Cross of Spain was instituted on 6 July 1864 by Queen Isabella II to reward meritorious service within the Spanish Red Cross. It is presently active and remains an important decoration for recognizing dedication to humanitarian causes in Spain.
