This is the catalog of the 1988 temporary exhibition set up by the State Russian Museum in Leningrad to present one of the most innovative and exciting periods of the Russian art in the genres of painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative arts, when realism was swept aside by the maelstrom of changes brought in by revolutions, wars, science and politics and, in the case of Soviet Russia, before all this innovation was strangled by the bloody fist of the communist regime and its approval of Socialist Realism as the only true art.

In very good to excellent condition. The only wear is a couple of tiny scuffs to the laminate at bottom left of the front cover and separation of the front and back end paper from the textblock. The binding is tight and strong, the internal pages are pristine.

This book goes beyond a mere catalog of an exhibition. It begins with two essays elaborating on the path of the Russian avant-garde and provides comments to each illustration, a list of abbreviations, artistic societies accompanied by brief descriptions of their missions, short bios of each artist presented in the exhibition, and dozens of pages of high-quality color photos illustrating the exhibits.

Please note that the pen in out photo is for size reference.
