Tunisia, Order of Independence, 3rd cl., Commander, Type 2, on Neck Ribbon, maker marked on the link ring.

Silver, enamel, measures 78.5 mm in height (incl. suspension bow), 50.4 mm in width, weighs 36.9 g. The center medallion is inscribed with "INDEPENDCE DAY" in Arabic. The reverse is plain. The neck ribbon is 37 cm (14 ½") long, with silk ties. The link ring is struck with an unknown maker's mark. The badge is in excellent condition, showing very light attractive patina to some of the tips of the silver rays. The suspension bow sits slightly askew, leaning to the right, but barely perceptibly. The ribbon is in excellent condition, perfectly clean and wear-free.

The Order of Independence was founded on 6 September 1956 by King Muhammad al-Amin to commemorate the attainment of independence from France and to recognize the services of those who struggled to achieve it. In March 1959, the order was reorganized by the Republic.
