The enamel is exceptionally well-preserved and shows a magnificent luster; it is practically free of any wear visible to the naked eye, having only some minuscule, barely noticeable contact marks - no chips, flaking or significant scratches.

The exposed silver parts of the medallion have only a few very tiny dings and are free of significant wear. The details of the artwork are extremely well-preserved and crisp, including the grass under the soldier's feet. The toning to silver is uniform and attractive throughout.

The medal comes on a WW2-era suspension device, a two-layer model in steel with a self-locking pin. The old, possibly original ribbon is perfectly clean and sound, and shows only a minor amount of wear to the edges. To summarize, this is an outstanding example of the first Soviet award medal!
