The retainer bands used to hold cigarettes are in place and appear to be original. The latch and its spring are intact and in perfect working order. The anchors for the elastic bands are straight, undamaged, and ready to receive replacement bands, if desired.

Only twelve Soviet cities were given the Hero of the Soviet Union award for their outstanding contribution to the victory over the Nazi Germany. The very notion of honoring a city with this, the highest award of the country, was announced on May 8, 1965 by order of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Seven cities were the first to receive this honored title on that day, Kyiv among them.
