Presentation Cigarette Case to a Soviet Military Serviceman, with Artwork Depicting a Soldier Guarding his Motherland, circa late 1940s.

In brass with nickel finish; 4 ¾" x 3 ½" x ½". Nicely detailed artwork in the characteristic style of the 1940s is stamped but it is executed in such detail and with such precision that it looks like hand-engraving. Features a Soviet Army soldier with a PPSh or PPD submachine-gun in front of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Clock Tower and a contour map of the USSR. The space inside the shield on the right was supposed to bear a presentation inscription but it was left blank (most cigarette cases with the same artwork have the inscription "Guarding the USSR for 30 Years" deeply stamped inside

In good condition. The nickel finish is partly worn-off; the rod in the hinge is one segment short, however, the case is structurally sound, the latch works properly, the hinge is straight, and the panels align perfectly when closed. The inside is very clean, with minor tarnish spots along the sides. Overall, the piece shows a great deal of character and will display very well.

This cigarette case was intended to be given as a gift to an active-duty serviceman or veteran. A very attractive piece to add to an early Cold War display!

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
