Founded immediately after the war in September 1945, the factory was known during the first year of its existence as Riga Instrument Making Factory #305. Beside being a key manufacturer of hydrological and meteorological equipment for scientific purposes, it was also a major supplier of high-tech equipment for the Soviet air force and navy.
