The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", postally unused, government pre-printed stamp and an additional stamp are cancelled with a First Day cancel of the Riga Post Office, dated 23 August 1987. The artwork on the left was created by P. Bendel whose name is printed on the bottom flap of the verso. Published by Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown.
In excellent condition, showing just a bit of attractive age-toning to the paper.

Friedrich Zander (full name Georg Arthur Constantin Friedrich Zander, 1887 - 1933) was a Russian and Soviet pioneer of rocket engines and spaceflight of Baltic German descent. He designed the first liquid-fueled rocket launched in the USSR and made many important theoretical contributions not only to rocket engines but to understanding various issues of long-duration spaceflight, such as life support.
