Original Ink Pen Drawing by N. Chebotayev, propaganda of the 1st elections under Stalin's new 1936 Constitution for the Krasnoyarskiy Komsomolets newspaper, 1937.

Measures 8 ¼" x 11". The artist's hand signature is in the lower right-hand corner of the artwork, also on the verso.

In excellent condition. The level of soiling is mild, and is to be expected on an original work of art. Two short tears next to the tiny missing piece of the right edge have been carefully repaired with acid-free tape and are virtually invisible on the obverse.

The drawing shows all the expected accoutrements of Soviet propaganda of that time including the brand-new monument The Worker and the Kolkhoz Woman by Vera Mukhina, a huge 24.5-meter

The drawing shows all the expected accoutrements of Soviet propaganda of that time including the brand-new monument The Worker and the Kolkhoz Woman by Vera Mukhina, a huge 24.5-meter-tall stainless-steel sculpture made for the 1937 World Fair in Paris. The zealous rapture in the facial expressions of the two voters is probably meant to emphasize the huge win of the Soviet democracy under the new Constitution - the opportunity to vote directly and secretly for, well, Stalin.

The drawing was made for an issue of the Krasnoyarskiy Komsomolets newspaper. Krasnoyarsk, a large city on the banks of the YYenisei River, is the administrative center of the Krasnoyarsk Krai, an enormous region occupying 913,800 sq. miles of territory in Siberia along the Yenisei River. In 1937, it was "populated" with hundreds of thousands of GULAG prisoners who were there to mine its natural resources and develop its industry. That was, after they had built their own prison camps.
